If you failed to play MKV (DTS) movies on your Galaxy S5, you can follow this simple tutorial to get the work done.
I’ve just upgraded my Samsung Galaxy S3 to a S5. I was able to play MKV files fine on my S3 and I’m surprised to find out that when I try to play an MKV file on Galaxy S5, I got a message saying “Unable to play audio track. Unsupported audio codec“. After checking out, I found my MKV files includes DTS audio. I tried installing some other media player like VLC, BS Player and MX Player, none of them support MKV DTS playback. Luckily, I’ve figured out the best way to play MKV (DTS) on Galaxy S5. If you are in such issue, read on to get the quick solution.
The reason you cannot view MKV with DTS audio on Galaxy S5 is simple: the stock and downloaded player on S5 cannot find a suitable decoder for the file. So the easy workaround is to convert MKV DTS files to a more playable format, such as MP4 for Galaxy S5.
First of all, download Brorsoft Video Converter (available for Windows and Mac users). The program is very ease to use and can produce excellent results for the Galaxy S5 (Galaxy S4, S3 also included). Conversion speed seems fine and the converted videos look decent on S5 as original.
The convesion process is straightforward. Launch the Brorsoft app, drag and drop the MKV files to the program, choose output profile (H.264, MP4, or HD MP4), and click Convert. Below are the detailed steps on how to convert MKV with DTS sound for playback on Galaxy S5.
Step 1: Go to download and install the MKV to Galaxy S5 converter, then launch it. Afterwards, directly drag and drop MKV files to the program. Or you can tap the “Add” button to import your videos files (VOB, TiVo, MOV, AVI, MPG, etc. are also supported). Batch conversion is available, so you can add several files at one time.
Step 2: Set output video file format for your device. Here you can go to Format > Samsung and choose Samsung Galaxy S III Video (*.mp4) as the export format. The output videos could fit Samsung Galaxy S5 with excellent quality. Of course, you can select other optimized preset for your Samsung Galaxy gadget.
Step 3: Tap the “Settings” icon and you can adjust codec, bit rate, frame rate, sample rate and audio channel in the interface according to your needs and optimize the output file quality. In usual, 1280*720 video size, 1000~2000 video bitrate is proper. You’d better keep a good balance of the video size and quality.
Step 4: Hit the big Convert bar to start the MKV to Galaxy S5 conversion.
After a while, you will get the output MP4 files ready to be imported and played on Galaxy S5.
So there you have it. Pretty Simple!
